As an advisor to the IoT Consortium, ImpactLABS is fortunate to have access to about 50 of the leading and emerging brands in IoT-associated markets. On Monday, October 16, ImpactLABS participated in the networking, guided discussions, and quick presentations shared at the IoT Consortium Smart Cities Dinner in Little Goat, Chicago. At this event, we were able to share our work in deploying IoT solutions to foster resilient communities, even in the roughest and most challenging parts of the Midwest.

Greg Kahn is President and CEO of the IoTC. He is well-known as a consummate networker and media maven, having previously been honored with both Advertising Age’s Media Maven and Mediaweek’s All-Star awards. Greg played a key role in leading discussions that night. One important conclusion drawn from the event was that “smart cities” is a great tagline/marketing term, but it is currently impossible to execute. To flesh out the challenges that loom for municipal IoT deployments, more discussion is needed on how to implement resilient infrastructure to turn cities into resilient communities.

The next step would be to follow up with some of the ambitious people and influencers we met to explore potential collaborations. IoTC is considered a leadership group with global influence in IoT, and is always working – and ultimately proving – that it lives up to such expectations.
