LABS is among fifty Founding Members to launch the EdgeX Foundry, a Linux Foundation project to build a common open framework for IoT edge computing. The project also seeks to build an ecosystem of interoperable IoT components.
The goal of the EdgeX Foundry is to standardize industrial IoT edge computing, reducing the complexity of the current landscape that hinders widespread adoption and deployment of IoT solutions.
IoT can deliver significant value to virtually any business through enhanced risk management, asset and inventory optimization, cost reduction and new revenue sources. Yet the complexity of selecting and integrating solution components often creates barriers to entry — especially for middle market companies.
Impact LABS works with a number of EdgeX Foundry members to live pilot IoT solutions for small-to-medium sized businesses, who often don’t have access to latest industrial and enterprise tools and methods.
The EdgeX initiative will support LABS’ efforts to deploy IoT in communities facing natural resource challenges, smart cities, resilient infrastructure, food security and industry 4.0 markets.
An open source, modular architecture for elements of IoT and edge computing solutions will put data in the hands of those who need it, empowering business owners, their partners and communities to make better-informed decisions managing addressing challenges and optimizing opportunities — including and especially data from their physical operations.
