WGBH: New Bedford Sees Nation’s Largest Unemployment Decline

New Bedford’s unemployment rate dropped sharply from 6.5 to 3.7 percent in the last year, making it the nation-wide leader in curbing joblessness. In an interview with WGBH, Mayor John Mitchell credits the drop in unemployment to a diverse, broad-based growth. Mitchell attributes IoT and New Bedford’s growing tech cluster to job creation, along with manufacturing, scallop fishing, and small businesses.
